Slater Veterans Park
The Slater Veterans Park in downtown offers a fitting tribute to the men and women that have served our country. The park was dedicated by Congressman Ike Skelton in 2002. It offers a tranquil setting to relax, have lunch or enjoy the beautiful water garden. The park offers two large murals which were painted by area artist Peggy Guest. One mural honors each branch of the military and the other depicts scenes from the history of our community.
Memorial bricks have helped fund many of the improvements to the grounds and are currently available for sale. Bricks inscribed for persons that have served in our Armed Forces are placed under the flag poles near the entrance . The other bricks line the walks that line the rest of the park. Bricks have been purchased include memorials to family members (both living & deceased), past & present businesses, graduating classes from SHS, civic groups, anniversaries. The cost for the bricks is $50. |
