Holiday Express
4:00 p.m. - December 15, 2009 Slater, MO Depot Slater is honored to be chosen one of five cities that have been chosen to host the 2009 Holiday Express. In its ninth annual trip across Kansas City Southern’s (KCS) U.S. rail network, the Holiday Express train will stop at the depot in Slater, Missouri at 4:00 p.m. on December 15, 2009. The six-car train will bring Santa Claus for a visit with kids and offers visual displays inside and out for young and old alike. This event is free and open to the public. Additionally, at each stop, KCS will make a donation to the local Salvation Army.
Led by KCS’ Southern Belle business train, the six-car Holiday Express train includes a smiling tank car “Rudy”; a flat car carrying Santa’s sleigh, reindeer and a miniature village; a ginger bread box car; the elves’ workshop; the reindeer’s stable; and a little red caboose. The Holiday Express was created in 2001 after volunteers dedicated over 8,000 hours to the rigorous transformation of the retired freight train. Festive music and lights complete the package.
